Hey there everyone! I hope you are all doing well and you have all had an awesome summer. I certainly have but unfortunately, that has come at the expense of the blog. If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I have been in Germany on business, throwing a bit of a spanner in the works. Either way, this is just a quick update and to give you some news about Tabletop Gaming Live!
Thankfully though, I am now returning to the UK and this will allow me a greater amount of time to dedicate to the blog, to my YouTube channel and to everything else that surrounds the Honest Meeple blog. I have a few exciting ideas that I am planning out at the moment so I’m hoping I can share those with you soon!
To kick start my return to the UK, I will of course be attending Tabletop Gaming Live, at the Alexandra Palace in London. Last year was the very first year the event was hosted and it was a great success. I really enjoyed the show and because it was in its infancy, you didn’t feel overwhelmed, something I certainly felt when I visited my first UKGE.
If you are thinking of heading to TTGL this year, let me know! I will be working on the Zatu stand as well as floating around the other stalls and experiencing the different elements of the show so don’t be afraid to say hi, even if I have a camera in my hand!

2018 seems to be the year for Wolfgang Warsch, designer of The Mind and Ganz Schön Clever (both of which had nominations in the Spiel Des Jahre). He seems to have produced games that have been incredibly well received and have also created a fair amount of buzz, especially with The Mind! In recent years, I’ve noticed more and more conventions cropping up across the UK dedicated to board gaming, all with the aim of bringing like-minded people together to enjoy this fantastic hobby. I for one love a great convention/event! Being able to meet new people and share ideas and experiences within the hobby is a great opportunity and being able to spend a few days fully dedicated to the table is a massive tick in my book!
Airecon aims to champion this, encouraging people to come and sit down and just play, to their hearts content.
If I was to ask anyone to name a board game that saw players attempting to identify a killer by analysing both the crime scene and the clues left behind, you could be sure the majority of those people would answer Cluedo (Clue for our American friends). While this game would fit into this category, it’s fair to say it doesn’t involve any “real” detective work and the way you get to find the killer is a frantic finger-pointing race. Portal Games want to change that.Read More
Many will have seen the rise of games that challenge your dark humour and encourage you to be what can only be defined as a terrible person! The likes of Card’s Against Humanity tunes into people’s darkest thoughts and makes it necessary for people to come up with the most twisted things imaginable. I have tried my fair share of games like this but there is now a new kid on the block looking to tune into people’s dark sides. Gutterhead!Read More
